I got this simply to get through airport security with my cat and for use on the plane. It's not too short or too long. I have not actually used it through TSA yet, so I have no idea if there's too much metal. I know they will ask me to remove my hand that is "scruffing" him to swipe it for possible traces of bomb making materials and I want to make sure I have something securely attached around my wrist in case he wigs out (he's a first time flyer). I figure, if they have a problem, they can pat him and me down. I'm not losing him in an international airport! Will edit once I've actually used it through security. I have used it for prepping him for his trip and he hates having a harness/leash on, but it's extremely secure and well made, although I can't attest to whether it's good for walking since it's a cat and he simply plops down and gives me that... "you have shamed me" look.
Update: Have used this leash several times through TSA now and it never sets off the metal detector. It wraps around your wrist/arm nicely, great length, and very well made and secure.
