This is a well written and informative book on the subject of bringing a new dog or puppy into a home with children. The information is well laid out in easy to reference chapters, and the pictures really illustrate what the "do"s and "don't"s look like. There is a helpful timetable for dog maturity so one can better understand where your puppy is in terms of emotional and physical maturity, and how that relates to kids. Whether your a patent with young children or a dog trainer/lover, there is much practical advice to absorb and use!

This book is excellent if you have children and plan on acquiring a puppy or vice versa in that it shows how to teach both parties to have respect for each other. This book would also be great if you have a puppy around your nieces, nephews, grandchildren, etc.

The books ok but not really what I was looking for

This book contains a lot of good practical advice - lots of warning advice to parents and is a little long on chit chat. A good book but not earth shattering. I'd recommend it if you're new to the unique challenges of raising puppies and kids at the same time. It's a good idea to read this book BEFORE you get the puppy, but if you have the puppy already and realize you have a problem, then at least you can peruse the book and save your puppies sanity (and hopefully his long term behavior and your family's overall happiness). My reco to the writer - be more concise in your writing style - most of us with puppies and kids are short on time!

though I've had dogs my whole life, I was about to get my first dog as a parent of small children. this book was clear and concise. the authors spell things out multiple times and instead of just saying, "don't do that", they give you ideas of what you CAN do instead. easy read. great book.

I learned SO much to make raising a puppy easier and less stressful for all. It is well written and full of info and anecdotal examples. I recommend it.

This book had some good and some bad. It's written by some moms with dogs. From personal experience. Some advice was frankly opposite of what other books by well-known dog trainers said (Monks of Skete, Kilcommons). The setup was just stories of bad dogs and what to do so your dog doesn't do that. It wouldn't help someone who needed to fix a problem and didn't help me with the first steps of getting kids and dogs to know each other. MUCH BETTER BOOK: Puppy Training for Kids by Colleen Pelar. That one was a step by step guide to teaching kids about how dogs think and how to best respond to them to get the behavior you want. Go elsewhere.
