Getting the cats ready for El Nino with this insulated dog house

Getting the cats ready for El Nino with this insulated dog house
I bought one for the feral cats that migrated over earlier this past summer after my neighbor died. He took in stray cats, bless his heart, but after his passing the poor darling kitties showed up on our property looking so forlorn and hungry. What with the upcoming El Nino approaching soon I put the DP Hunter Insulated Dog House, a pair of Kitty Tubes and a dog house we still have from years ago all on our covered front porch. So far 3 or 4 of the cats use the DP Hunter Insulated Dog House, but I have to keep the door propped open in order for them to use it. When it was closed they could not figure out how to push their way in, even when I put catnip inside with the straw bedding. It was nice to see 4 of the cats come out of that dog house when I opened the front door to give them breakfast. The nights are still fairly warm, but come winter when it gets cold I'm sure the other cats will take shelter in the Kitty Tubes and both dog houses on the covered porch. Started out with a dozen cats who migrated over, but we are down to 9 after 2 disappeared and 1 adorable black juvenile kitten died. I can recommend this insulated dog house. Very well constructed.

I had a stray show up about two months ago and started feeding her. She was too friendly to be feral. Put an ad in the paper and no one claimed her. She is basically an outdoor cat and likes to be outside, but likes to come in also. I have 3 house cats of my own and they don't like each other very much and no way are they going to tolerate another strange cat coming in. I have to put my 3 in the bedroom and then bring in the stray for a while. She was litter box trained already. I think someone just moved and left her.

I purchased a DP Hunter Insulated Dog House from Amazon for her and she loves it. I did have to remove the bottom part of the door because she would not push it to go in or did not know how to come out. Kept trying to get her to use it but to no avail. I have it well padded with warm bedding. I just drape a blanket over the dog house and let it come down over the door a little and she does go in and out pass the blanket.

Also bought one of those Snuggle Safe Microwave Heating pads from Amazon and put it under her bedding in the dog house and she snuggles in that house at night. Have just ordered another Snuggle Safe from Amazon because here in New Mexico it is starting to get cold now and soon the snow will come, so between the insulated dog house and the two heat pads she will be nice and warm.
She likes being in the garage at night also so may just move the doghouse into the garage and since the window are not that high up keep the window open part way so she can get in and out.
But really loving the house. There was another review about someone having a problem moving the house. I have no problem at all. My husband picks up one end and I pick up the other and we can move it anywhere. Highly recommend this house!

Well, unfortunately, my 9 month old, 19 pound, Labradoodle just ate a hole in the back panel of the dog house. He then pulled out all of the insulation and destroyed it. All while I was at work for 6 hours. And yes, he had PLENTY of chew toys and bones to keep him happy. I guess you'll have to cross your fingers if you buy this dog house.

I was feeding an abandoned cat over the summer but knew I needed a really good shelter for rain and the upcoming winter as I already have other pets indoors. After much research, I purchased this house. It is very study and fits together very snuggly. I didn't use the screws to attach the top because it's really not necessary. The bottom part of the swinging door is too heavy for a cat and I didn't use so to make up for the airflow not being blocked I put a covered litterbox inside with a special pad and other bedding putting straw underneath it all. I insulated the inside and outside of the house with styrofoam and then covered the whole house with heavy clear plastic letting it hang over the front slightly. For January and February, I placed the house on top of a table in between my wood bin and another wood pile to block the wind. I live in a very windy area so being up high, the house could not get blocked by snow drifts and was also better protection from other critters. With the covered litter box inside, there was only enough room for one cat but still room enough for his food dish during inclement weather. I'm so glad I got this house and highly recommend it. My outdoor cat uses it whenever he wants to get out of bad or wet weather and it gave me peace of mind during severe cold, rain, wind and snow storms to know that this kitty had a home that was warm and dry. I would have given 5 stars if the lower part of the door was easier to attach and remove as I had difficulty even though I eventually didn't use it. Also, it seems most people are using this particular house for cats so I wish they would offer some type of light weight, see-through lower door attachment that would be easier for cats to pass through. Overall, a very good investment.

Straw makes it cozy, however ASL Solutions sells a heating mat and for the summer months a solar operated exhaust fan. It is heavier than some of the wooden pet houses. I highly recommend the DP Hunter dog house which comes in several sizes! I had pictures to post, but cannot figure out how to do it!
