About the author

An avid reader, Liz began writing in early childhood although those efforts were probably unreadable. She has since written more than 80 books. Most are nonfiction books about dogs and other pets. A number of her books, including "Puppy Love" and "The Howell Book of Dogs" have won awards for excellence.
Recently Liz began writing contemporary romance and has found her calling. As a long time reader of the genre, she enjoys writing the stories her characters tell her. Her friends know to be careful because anything - anything - can end up in a novel.
A former Marine and a Marine Corps widow, she is now living in Kansas on a small farm. She lives with three English Shepherd dogs, fosters orphaned kittens, and gardens when she's not writing. Her three goats are a never ending source of amusement.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2014My puppy was already 3 months old when I purchased this book--but I went back and the information was spot on for the first 3!
It is the best source of concise information I have gotten yet for this breed.
I was already into some of the behaviours with my puppy and the book told me the how and why and what to do to handle them!
Instead of saying "what the heck is going on" and "how will I deal with this/" I can say--"oh,yeah , I was wondering when that would show up" and "this is what I need do."
I took my 4 month old --57 pound--5" 2' German Shepard puppy on his first public outing yesterday. Using the tips from this book prior to the trip and using them in Pet Smart, I came away with a positive experience and the folks at Pet Smart loved the "little guy". I walked out with a dog I was proud of instead of skulking away vowing never to return.
The advice and tips in this book are INVALUABLE and I will use it on going with my dog.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2013I have had 5 shepherds over the years. They have all been wonder friends and I miss them all.
However after reading the German Shepherd Month by Month I have learned about the many
errors I made in training them. If I would have known the various stages they go thru month by
month, training would
have been easier And my wonderful guys would have had a much better, happier puppyhood.
They actually had to do a lot of self training when they became adults. My new friend will be born
approx. Dec. 15. I will have him about valentine day. He will have a much easier and happier
puppyhood because of this wonderful, informative book. I plan on keeping the book on breakfast
room table with a book mark marking the month he is. And post on fridge a list of the important issues
of that month for a reminder. There will be no scolding, just distraction from things he shouldn't do
and a lot of praise and love.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2014A lot of important info mixed with interesting facts make for an easy read. Anyone who is planning on getting a German Shepherd puppy or already has one should definitely read through this.
There was one detail which I would normally consider minor and ignore, but when compounded and overused (as it was in this book) irked me so much, I couldn't help but to take off a star. The pervasive use of the pronoun "she" when referring to a puppy of no particular sex was annoying, unnecessary, and, more importantly, extremely distracting. It was especially confusing in contexts involving multiple actors (puppy, mother, breeder and owner) each of whom was a "she." In most cases, the word "it" would've gotten the point across in a clear and concise manner.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2014I've just got this book early today, and now I can't stop reading it. As a first time GSD owner myself, I found this book he extremely easy and fun to read. The information is just about right amount and answers every question I have. It also explores and analyzes the canine psychology for their normal and bad behaviors as they development through the life span. After you understand puppy psychology, you don't even need to memorize the solution to correct a specific unwanted behavior, the solution just comes up to you automatically. I feel like an dog behavior expert after reading this book, and it definitely helps me become more confident in raising up my puppy. Would recommend this book to all who are new to the GSD breed.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2013This is one the best books on taking care of a german shepherd puppy from the day you get it until it grows up into an adult dog. The book is very comprehensive and covers everything from choosing a puppy, vaccinations, diseases internal parasites, health problems, feeding the puppy- nutrition, training, grooming, taking it to the vet and protecting the puppy and talking to your puppy so it bonds with you and teaching him and helping him learn all the rules so he doesn`t mess up your house. This book teaches you everything you need to know how to raise a healthy and happy german shepherd puppy
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2014This book was not only a great book to read when I was waiting for my shepherd to come home, but a great reference book. Each time I noticed something different my puppy was doing, I would flip to that month and about 99% of the time I would find his current behavior in the book under his current age. It helped me feel confident that what I was doing was correct, I was not failing, he was just going through his normal stages. I would recommend this book to all German shepherd owners. Get ready for the challenges of puppy hood and look forward to a wonderful companion.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2013I love this book. There is a great variety of explanations. I am a young teen who is wanting a Shepherd soo much, so I just wanted to know some info. I recommend it to any one is looking for any information on this breed. I totally recommend. the author goes into great detail in every month. She tells you what not to do and what to do. I had read the whole book before and when I get my Shepherd I will reread it. Like I said it cleared up my vision and what I thought I knew on the breed. BUY IT IT'S WORTH IT!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An indispensible guide for people seeking to raise a German Shepherd puppy
Your German Shepherd Puppy Month By Month is an indispensable guide to looking after a German Shepherd Puppy.
I never owned a dog when growing up, so was pretty unaware of all the variables involved in raising a puppy, particularly a breed as challenging as German Shepherds. This book ensured that I was able to make an informed decision before making the commitment to buy a puppy and that once I brought her back into my home, I was able to fall back on the book for relevant guidance relating to her specific stage of development.
The book is broken down into easily digestible chapters detailing the key developments to look out for and even giving tips on what training should be started in that month. The book is written by an American author, so some points are less relevant e.g. vaccination programmes are different. There are also highlighted bits in ever chapter such as tips and tails and happy puppy, all of which help to find key things which are especially relevant to that month of your puppy's development. I mislaid my first copy of this book on a train and immediately bought a replacement - it was one of the most sensible decisions I made since deciding to get a dog. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Awesome book. Carefully written by an obviously well informed breeder. This is not the kind of book that is just a generic dog book that could apply to any breed. This is very specifically for German Shepherds and informs you of the caracteristics that are proper to the breed, although it is a good tool for any dog owner, regardless of the breed.
