Love this backpack!

Love this backpack!
This backpack is made very well and is very sturdy. It can pretty much fit an average sized water bottle, poopy bags, and a cell phone on each side...so not too much, but enough to weigh the dog down a little so she'll work a bit on walks. When ever I used go for walks with my Dalmatian, she would pull me like crazy! But whenever I put this on her with a water bottle on each side, keys on one side and my cell phone on the other she doesn't pull half as much! It's great. One thing, and I knew this before purchasing this backpack, is that if you don't have weight evenly distributed on both side of the dog, one side will sag a little lower than the other and make the dog a little off balance. It's important to keep it even or it will seriously bug you to death to have to keep straightening the thing. Instead of water bottles, I sometimes use a new parmesean bottle on each side just to keep the weight even. That is the one and only complaint I have about this backpack, but if you read this review then you can be aware of this issue before you buy it and just plan to distribute the weight evenly. Overall, this is an awesome buy! I love it, my dog loves it..it's just a nice and well made doggy backpack :)

My dog (a year and a half foxhound/labrador mix that I adopted a month ago) has developed severe separation anxiety, and according to Cesar Milan one of the solutions is to give him more exercise before I leave in the morning. Since a two hour walk before the hour of seven seemed a little excessive, I began looking for other answers to this dilemma.

The suggestion of a doggie backpack with filled water bottles or other weighted material (not too much, but enough to make the dog work harder) was presented to me. I loved the idea of giving my dog the workout he deserves without completely tiring myself out before a day at work to do it, and also the idea of him being able to carry his own water, food, toys, and treats on long hikes and camping trips once the summer months roll around. Therefore I began scouring Amazon for quality packs that weren't too overpriced. I was shocked to see some dog packs that cost more than the backpack I carried in college, but this one seemed to be of quality construction and was affordable to boot (and eligible for Amazon Prime shipping, which is a major bonus).

I am pleased to tell you that this product was everything I was hoping for and more. The straps are fully adjustable, so I got the perfect fit for my dog after only a couple of adjustments. You can even adjust where the saddlebags fall on the dog's flanks, so the pack can fit a wide range of dogs. The materials are also very high quality and I can tell that this was designed to be an item that gets ample use throughout its lifetime. I managed to squeeze two 32 oz Nalgene bottles, filled with water for weight, into the saddle bags, and I can't believe the change in my dog. He is calmer and more submissive, and his separation anxiety is already decreased.

Bottom line: if you are looking for a quality pack for your medium to large sized dog, BUY THIS ONE! The price is right and the quality is great!

I chose this backpack for my 5 year old Rottweiler mix based on the pictures of others wearing it -- it's got the Y strap in front so it looked like it would fit better than the ones that just have the strap across their chests (we borrowed a friend's like that before we bought our own to make sure she was comfortable with a backpack) and those just seem to tip to the side too easily. This one does fit her great! She's 75 pounds, but very lean for a Rottie so I wasn't too worried about it being too small. I just had to let out the front strap a few inches when I got it and it fit perfectly. She doesn't mind it being on and it doesn't tip or move around too much on her body to irritate her or cause any chaffing.

The only caveat is that the side pockets are rather small (I couldn't fit a larger sized water bottle in them because they were too long, so we'll have to stick to the normal water bottles) and the zippers are (like a previous reviewer said) a little difficult to get to and open up quickly (because they're small), but zipper pulls will probably make that easier. However, I don't intend to use this as a hiking backpack -- I merely wanted something so she could start carrying her own stuff to the dog park! And this works perfect for that. It'll hold a water bottle in each side and I should still be able to slide the collapsible water bowl, some poop bags, and even my phone/keys/wallet or treats in around the water bottles.

We just went on our first walk with it loaded up with a water bottle on each side and it worked perfect! No slipping or sliding and she definitely went into "I'm working" mode and felt like she had a job to do.

If you're looking for a backpack to go hiking in, I'd suggest looking elsewhere as there are a number of great backpacks that hold more for stuff like that, but if you're just looking for something to hold some weight to wear out some high energy breeds or just something to carry a few small things in for short trips this is a great backpack. It seems to be very well made -- there's no issues with the seams and the straps aren't thin and don't slip. The backpack stays on their back for the entire walk and it is very easy to size and put on/take off.

I have three pitties, and this fits my older two (55 and 60 lbs) great, but it won't quite adjust down small enough to fit my 42 lb baby... That being said, it seems to be decent quality and has held up through a couple of hikes so far. If it falls apart too quickly, I will update my review. For now, though, I'm very happy for the price.

    Pros:
    - The saddle bags are large enough to hold a "normal" sized water bottle (I buy the ones that come in a 24 pk. at Costco). I don't think they would hold a taller bottle like dasani or a sport bottle, though.
    - The leash hook (which is also a bottle opener) is at the back of the backpack, so the leash doesn't end up under my dogs' front paws.
    - Very light-weight material, so the back pack itself isn't adding too much weight for my dogs to carry on our little excursions (I have older dogs and take them on 20 mile + hikes, so I don't want to stress their bodies too much)
    - Killer price.
    - Straps are adjustable, and there is some padding around the neck so it doesn't rub them raw.

    Cons:
    - Isn't truly a "one-size-fits-all" deal.
    - I wish the straps were padded, but I will probably make a little slip cover because they rub under my dogs' "armpits" a little.

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons for me, and it's really nice to have my dogs carry their own water and treats for a change :)

You can't complain about the quality of this product. It has held up after several hikes and fits great due to how adjustable it is. Fits a couple bottles of water in each pack but also has a handy-dandy bottle opener on the back :)

I have a shelter dog who functions really well when he is given a "job". This pack, once he got used to the feel of it, made my dog feel so much more confident. I think he was proud to carry the water bottles on our hike. My dog is medium sized and we have a hard time finding things that fit, but this is so adjustable that you just can't go wrong.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product but straps keep coming loose

I have a large doberman and I was worried that this wouldn't fit her. The back pack fits amazing because of all of the adjustable straps everywhere (I think there is 7 or 8 in total). We have used this item 3 times now with 2.5lb ankle weights in each compartment. Our walk is a total of 2km (1 downhill, 1 way uphill) and when we get to the bottom of our hill her straps always need to be tightened! I think that we will try to sew some of the straps in place before giving up but it will probably have to go to a seamstress because of the strap material...

Seems to work well on both of my 65 lb. dogs. I need to fine tune the fit some as the pack on the longer backed dog did slid around a bit. The pack needs to be adjusted to a snug fit. Nice ring at the back to attach the leash to .we used this for hiking. Not large bags but that's why we picked them.

Bought this for my bulldog. Most clothes etc are hard to find to fit my bully properly. I really liked this back pack because it's easy to adjust the straps to fit properly. It's sturdy, he pulls tugs etc and it's stayed together. Also, the pouches hold two 500ml water bottles and you may be able to squeeze a few treats on there as well, so they are a fair size. I thought this was well worth the money.

I bought this for my sweet rescue pitbull cross. She is 52 pounds and it fits perfectly. She comes home after her walk with it all muddy and such but that's what adventures are for. We do find that putting on the backpack helps with her really strong prey drive towards bunnies and squirrels. It gives her something else to concentrate on. It also washes up beautifully in the machine. Great product.
