Love the made in the USA bells!!!!!
We have 4 dogs and 2 cats! Most of them use the poochie bells whenever they need to go outside. (Yes, one of the cats does use them). Both of our Goldendoodles were taught to use them at boot camp and continued to use them when they came home! I love that THESE bells are made in USA! High quality and great looking!!! I highly recommend them!!! It was easy to train the older dogs, as well!

I got this I think about 3 weeks ago. I bought it because I got a new dog and was having a hard time telling when she needed to go out or if she was just snooping around. I hung it on the door and every time I put the dogs out I would pull it forward and gently touch it on her nose and say "touch it". When I was lazy like in the middle of the night I would just ring it myself then open the door. I started touching it on her nose a little harder so it would ring. After I think about a week she rang it a couple of times, those first couple I am not sure if it was an accident or not. After about 2 weeks she was using it when she wanted out. Now she is so good at it she used it the other night to trick me into going and opening the door so she could steal my spot on the couch. Now I am going to make sure I put her out every time she rings it so she won't try to trick me.

I think some dogs it may take a bit longer to learn how to use. I think if my other dog needed it he would have taken longer. But my new dog is pretty sharp, a shepherd mix (potcake).

I was really skeptical about these bells. I mean paying $16.00 for bells, but hey, I wanted my dog to pee outside not inside, it was worth a try and boy am I glad I did. I didn’t have my dog touch the bells with his nose or paws or anything. I just took a command hook, hung out right next to the door we use to go potty, and left it there. Every time we took him out to go potty, we would say “go potty”, ring the bell, and take him out and say “go potty” again. He eventually (2 ish weeks) figured out to ring the bell to be let out. However, he started trolling us by thinking ringing bell means go outside. Well, to fix this, we gave him three minutes to do something. If he did something, then we would give him more time to sniff and walk around the yard. If he didn’t do anything, we went straight back into the house. Then he started trolling us again after he figured that out to ring the bell, pee like two drops and then gets to play. No no no. So now we put him on a schedule. Same schedule every day. If he really needs to pee like after long walk or playing inside, he uses the bells to go out.

Great product and it will work! Your dog is smart!

If you are thinking of teaching your dog (or new puppy) to ring a bell to go outside, these are a must have. These easily hang from any door and are reachable by any size dog - our puppies were only 3 lbs when we started training them (now 10 lbs), and they were able to nose / paw at them to signal that they wanted to go outside. In fact, they like using it to signal the water bowl is empty, that they are hungry, that there is a bird outside that they want to bark at - it is a pretty neat communication tool!

You can look it up on youtube as to how to teach a dog to ring a bell - it just takes some patience. You hold the bells in front of them, tell them bell, and wait for them to bonk it, whatever method they prefer. The first bonk is the hardest - once they do it, you give them a treat, and then they will definitely repeat it. You keep treating them, and eventually they understand "bell" = ringing the bell = yummy treats. Then step 2 is hanging it on the door, and before you let them go out to potty, you tell them "bell" - make them ring the bell to go outside, and that is their treat. Once they become more potty trained, they will ring the bell proactively to go out!

I used the bell training method 6 years ago when I got my bichon. It was very effective and she understood it right away. At that time I made my own hanging bells using a loud Christmas bell in a liberty bell shape at the end of a cord. I highly recommend the method.

After she was trained and had grown bigger, she gave the bell such a whack that it started to chip the paint on the door, so I replaced it with a Christmas door hanger with bells on the bottom just a bit larger than the Poochie Bells. That hanger started to show some wear so I decided to get the Poochie Bells since I thought the Mudslide print would go well with my color scheme. I expected the bells to be at least as loud as the Christmas door hanger.

The print is only on one side and , unfortunately, using the loop at the top which goes over the doorknob does not cause the ribbon to lay flat. I had to put a ribbon through that hanger and tie that to the doorknob in order to have the print side consistently show. That seems to be a design defect.

The major disappointment for me, though, is the volume of the bells. They are very soft. Fortunately, for me, my dog is so well trained, that if someone doesn't hear her ring the bell, she will go back and give it an even harder smack until she does get a response. For someone just training a dog by this method, I doubt that is likely to happen if they are in another room and don't hear the very soft jingle this bell makes.

I think it probably makes more sense to go to a craft store and get the ribbon pattern one desires and then to buy the a nice loud set of bells to attach. The whole point is being able to hear the signal that your dog wants to go out.

I have tried several locations for these bells and I can't seem to get my dogs to use them. I figured my older (7yr) dog would have issues with change so late in the game but I thought my 4mo old puppy would pick it up quickly as she picks almost everything up quickly.

She seems to be afraid of the bells and they are just a tad too short (even hanging from a low doorknob). She is only 4.5lbs and can still reach it with her paws so I had hope, but it seems at this point I may just have to figure out another way for them to tell me (currently just every time they go sit by the door - the one with the bells on it)

I will update my review if they finally get the hang of it but for now I will give 4 stars. 5 for quality and appearance. 3 for "ease of use" and length.

excellent, and by day 3 my dog who was clueless to letting us know she wanted to go out rang her poochie bell, may be fluke, but good start and think she will soon get the hang of this - we have been struggling as she was a rescue used to crouching whenever/wherever so have high hopes for these , lovely sized so very easy to hear them, just ring them each time you take/let dog out, our dog will not pee in our garden so we were are at wits end, will update whether they turn out to work or not as she is most definitely a challenge-we bought 2 but may need a further set as she currently goes to 3 seperate doors.very attractive fabrics and sturdy should last a long time
