I got this book at a book store a few days back and after re-reading this book twice I have almost completely re-trained my dog! And he's almost 10!

I checked this book out at the library, and it has been a great resource for learning to raising a puppy. I did a lot of online research about breeds, training, and raising dogs, and much of what I found was biased (i.e. it's cruel to crate-train a dog) or not credible. Since this is a "Dummies" book, you know you're getting quality information in an easy-to-read and easy-to-use format. The author's teachings are practical and she has a lot of experience to back it up. I'd highly recommend this book for anyone interested in raising a puppy!

UPDATE 1/29/16: Wow, it's hard to believe I wrote this review nearly 7 years ago and our "puppy" is now middle-aged. He remains a well-mannered dog who listens well and is never aggressive. Some may have to do with his breed (mixed - Bassett/beagle) but I credit much of his good temperament to his early training. As an example, he LOVES food, but because we taught him from an early age, as described in the book, not to "guard" his food, he is incredibly patient and has never been aggressive over food. I highly recommend this book to any new dog owner.
