My Shiba Inu weighs 24 lb and I ordered a large for him which fits well around his neck and chest; however, the back is just slightly long and covers his curled tail a bit. I just fold under the back so the longer length is not a big issue for my pup.
The vest is well made, seams are tight and clean, and it will definitely keep your dog warm. The best aspect of this vest, in my opinion, is the multiple Velcro attachment points -- allowing you to easy put the vest on your dog and multiple points of adjustment for the most comfortable fit.
There is also a hole on the back of the vest to allow for the harness D ring to poke through so you can clip the leash -- this hole location fit with the puppia soft harness my dog wears.
The piping is reflective which is an added plus for safety.

If I got the XL the coat would fit length and the first Velcro near neck better, but definitely too large on the second Velcro .
I have a Basenji/Rhodesian Ridgeback and I bought a large. It fits short on her back but fairly snug on the neck and chest region where the first Velcro is. On the body Velcro portion there is a scrunchy region that allows for stretch to accommodate different body girth. Unfortunately that does not quite fit snug on my girl due to her hound and athletic feature. If I got the XL the coat would fit length and the first Velcro near neck better, but definitely too large on the second Velcro and would likely slide around as she walks. Otherwise a nice coat for the fall weather and moderate rain. It's fleeced inside and a nylon material on the exterior, with reflective strips along the back that allow for visibility in the dark.
