I used this in my dog's very large crate. He could move off of it if he needed to because it is only a partial. I liked that it was not going to get too hot--but when I felt it--it was nice and warm--much better than blankets over a concrete floor of the garage! Excellent product! I will probably buy a second one for his igloo outside--next year! We let him sleep inside when it gets really cold at night--but during the day he has to go out due to the fact that we both work--this made the winter bareable for all of us!
update: 2013. I had to purchase another one of these this year due to the hard plastic shell cracking around the edges and in the middle. Apparently the plastic gets brittle over time and breaks. The heating element still works but was afraid of an electrical fire so I bought a new one--I guess $21+ per year is OK to spend on my dog--just wish it had lasted longer. I bought the sheepskin type cover last time but my dog just pulled it off or it came off--it's only secured by elastic straps and would not stay on anyway.

Cleaning
The K&H Lectro-Kennel Igloo Style Heated Pad is easy to clean, just wipe with a damp rag. Allow to dry completely before plugging it back in.

Testing your K&H Lectro-Kennel Igloo Style Heated Pad
You'll notice that the K&H Lectro-Kennel Igloo Style Heated Pad may not feel warm to the touch when your pet is not on the pad. That is normal! You can test the pad by placing a large pillow on top of the pad. After about 20 minutes, feel under the pillow. It will feel warm, not hot. Do not use an extension cord during this test. Do not place anything on the pad (other than the fleece cover provided) any other time. This should only be done during testing.

Poorly packaged. Surprisingly it works.
Warms well but packaging for shipping was absolutely a joke. I was shocked it even worked when we "took it out of the box"....LOL. It was already hanging out of the box. It is not shipped in anything except the original slim box it is displayed in. Ridiculous. Cord was even hanging out

It worked great, for a while.
Now after 1 year it is trash.
This was installed and used exactly the way it was supposed to be used. It just cant hold up to the traffic of one 70 lb yellow lab. It still works, but shell is broken all the way around. It has not been chewed on. It was in the line with the pad on top with a wool blanket in an igloo. This was Inside the shop, not out in the elements.
Great idea, they never time tested this product. It needs to be some kind of silicon base cover, not hard plastic.
