These are beyond perfect for my tennis ball-loving cocker spaniel-mix. My dog has a very soft mouth. It's not something we ever taught him, but he simply will not bite hard unless the thing he's biting is edible. When we first got him from the shelter years ago he would have nightmares. I'd try to gently wake him from them but occasionally he'd still be in the grips of it and bite me out of fear or fury. Even in the grips of sheer terror he wouldn't leave a mark on my skin when he'd lash out. It's just not in him to bite hard. I'd say it was impossible if I hadn't personally witnessed him crack raw beef bones happily.

He didn't seem to have many, if any, toys when he was a pup (we got him at 3-ish years old) and as a result the only toys he really plays with are balls. He has a very special love for tennis balls, though. When we found the regular Kong squeaky tennis balls a few years after we got him he fell in love. They are his favorite. Squeak one and he becomes a puppy again, begging you to toss it for him. He also loves squeaking them himself and gets so tickled with himself when he manages to do it. It's adorable. But the poor thing can chew on one of those Kong ones for an hour and make it squeak only once or twice. Similarly, my 5 year-old son and his similarly-aged cousins love playing fetch with Theo. The kids from my son' sage and younger can't squeak the regular Kong balls, which frustrates them.

So, given all of this, when I read that these are a bit softer and easier to squeak than the regular Kong ones, I had to get them. We've only just gotten them, but they're already a hit. My son can squeak it, and Theodore has squeaked it a few times, though with effort. I really think, though, that with use it will get easier for him.

Something I love about the Kong tennis balls is that Theo likes to rip the felt off tennis balls. He delights in it. With cheap regular tennis balls it doesn't take him any time at all. Some colossally cheap ones took only a week to strip bare, but most take 3-6 months. We've kept buying him the regular Kong squeakies because they take him about a year to thoroughly strip and discard (he has no interest in them once they're bare, squeaky or no). These are inexpensive enough that even if it takes him 3-6 months to strip each one like the usual cheap non-squeaky ones, they'll still be more than worth it. And honestly, the felt on these feels just like the felt on the regular Kong ones, so I'm hopeful that they'll last a while. I'll update on how long it takes him to work a bare spot in one of these in case someone else has a dog that's more of a ball-stripper than a ball-destroyer.

All-in-all, it's like these balls were made for not just my dog, but my family in general. I highly recommend them, but only if you *don't* have the sort of dog that delights in ripping the guts or squeaker out of a ball.

Another order arrived today from Amazon, and I have to admit that my dog gets even more excited than I do, when he sees the delivery truck stop at our home. When I place an order from Amazon, I generally ad at least one toy for my dog and I believe in his mind, he thinks that all parcel delivery trucks that pass by are always delivering dog toys.

Well, he was right, once again. This time I bought a completely different toy. My dog loves `squeaky dolls' and he loves all balls, so, what could be better than a new and different toy as Kong's set of 3 Squeakair balls.

For a reference, my dog is a 5-year-old, Old English sheepdog, he rates about a 5 on a 1-10 destructive factor, and this was his first experience with this type of toy. His reaction was priceless.

The `Squeakair Ball' is about the size of a tennis ball, but it is lighter and it does not bounce as high. It is not as firm as the ordinary tennis ball, it is a little softer so when the dog has it grasped in his mouth, it is soft enough that when a little `jaw' pressure is applied, the balls emits the sound of a squeak.

When my dog gets excited, he spins himself in circles, and he sometimes catches his own tail and as he was spinning himself in excitement, I gently tossed the ball down our hallway. He ran after the ball, grasped it in his jaws and it squeaked. His reaction was priceless.

He stood still as a statue, his ears perked forward, and his tail up in the form of a question mark. He gently squeaked it again. That is when the fun really started. He tossed the ball up in the air, ran down our long hallway, retrieved it, squeaked it again, dropped it, batted it with his paws, and chased after it some more. He played this game of his the entire day. He does not need anyone to throw the ball as he does this himself.

These `Squeakair' balls will keep him entertained for hours. He tosses them up in the air, runs down our tiled floor, retrieves them, and repeats his own game of toss, chase, and retrieve. The squeakers are loud enough to entertain him but not too loud for us.

There are several reasons why this is the one of the `best' toys for my dog.
    1) It is a 3-toy package
    2) There is no stuffing to create a mess
    3) The `Squeakair' balls are large, no worrying about a choking hazard
    4) The `Squeakair' balls are loud enough for his enjoyment, but not too loud to annoy us.
    5) He gets a lot of `in-house' exercise
    6) He entertains himself for hours
    7) These `Squeakair' balls will last him for months

For my dog, the `Squeakair' balls are one of the best and safest toys to satisfy his `in-house' playing needs.

These balls seem very popular, and the price was low enough that I ordered them for my one year-old golden retriever. I figured even if they don't work out, I'm not out that much money.

I'm attaching a photo of two of the three balls the day we received them. The pink one is after about 2 minutes of play (we opened the bag and gave him all three at once). The blue one is after about 3 hours of play, inside and outside. Now granted, he's a puppy, so he likes to chew. But I expected the covering to last at least a *little* bit longer than this! On the bright side, the balls inside are still in one piece. I'm not sure how long that will last, but I recently bought an 8-pack of another brand of balls at the pet store for about the same price/ball (they were on clearance because they had a holiday print), and my dog not only ate the covering off, but he basically ate the ball itself in bits and pieces in under an hour.

The two other good things, and the reason why I'm giving them three stars instead of one or two, are that he LOVES the squeakiness ... it keeps him entertained for hours. And the balls are very squishy, so they're easy to get out of his mouth. He loves to play fetch, and then he makes a game of dropping the ball, but then picking it up before you can grab it over and over again. At least with these balls, all you have to do is squeeze them until they're almost flat, and slip them through his teeth. My next ball purchase will hopefully be just as squishy, but without the cloth covering.

Fun, but the cover is not durable.
