Our teacup Yorkie was 2 lbs in these photos when we first started taking her to a relative’s house that was backed up to a harbor to practice swimming. Anytime we are on or around the water, I put it on out of habit. She doesn’t mind it at all, especially because it’s easy to get on and off.
And THANK GOD I did because itsaved her life this 4th of July when she was only 4 months old!
Anyone who’s been around the ocean (or any water) with kids knows how important safety measures are. I ran inside to assist a mom with an urgent medical need and left our dog with the moms and kids. During the 2 minutes I was inside, our puppy made a leap across the dock and missed, landing in the harbor. Because she was wearing her life vest, she was able to swim around the dock for the 2 minutes until a child saw her and was able to inform an adult who could rescue her. When she was pulled out of the ocean, she wasn’t panicked because she was confident in her floating abilities. Everyone thought I would be so upset when I returned with the medical supplies, but honestly, I just felt relieved that my husband and I took her safety so seriously, even when finding a teeny life vest that fit was difficult.
Needless to say, I would highly recommend this vest, especially to teacup puppy parents! And I would highly recommend putting your puppy in a vest any time you’re around water as an added measure.
