Is it Too Tight?

If you think it's TOO TIGHT, please know snugness is necessary. If your 4 fingers still fit under it, it's not too tight. Happy Hoodie is made of super stretchy fabric to ensure your dog's comfort even with a snug fit.
If your pet is unsure about wearing Happy Hoodie, treats and/or praise can be used for positive reinforcement.
We recommend supervising your pet while wearing Happy Hoodie.

Just how snug should this be on my dog? How do I know if it's too tight?

If at least 4 fingers fit comfortably between your pet's head and Happy Hoodie, it's not too tight. For dogs with overly thick necks, fold any excess fabric on the neck onto its head or use your pet's neck measurement for sizing to aid with comfort.
How does Happy Hoodie reduce noise for my dog? I put this on my head and I can still hear through the fabric.

It's similar to closing off your ear canal by pressing your ear closed with your finger. With the pet's ears covering the ear opening, Happy Hoodie’s gentle compression on the ears closes off the ear canal, which results in reduced noise.
My dog pawed at it and caused some fraying. Will it still work or will the fraying cause it to fall apart?

Since this is a knitted product, fraying can happen, but Happy Hoodie is very durable! If it gets frayed, it will still keep its stretch and compression and won’t “fall apart”. Just scissor off the frayed material and keep using it as intended.
I tried this on my dog when it arrived and she didn't seem to like it. What can I do to help her want to wear it?

Like any calming aid, you won't know how effective it is until you use it when your dog is upset (most dogs are VERY appreciative when it's used during stressful times!). If she is still unsure, praise/treats are helpful positive reinforcement aids.
What are the washing instructions, can Happy Hoodie go in the washer and dryer?

Yes it can! Use low heat and be aware that bleach and high heat will reduce its elasticity and longevity. Please do not wash or dry with any object or material that it can snag on, such as Zippers and Velcro, as this can fray the material.

This is a great way to distract your cat (I bought extra small) if you have to do something unpleasant (such as shaving a knot out of belly fur) that would otherwise result in teeth and nails sinking into your flesh.

Tips!

Prioritize what you want to get done. Have everything ready to go - if you're brushing or clipping nails or shaving - make sure anything with batteries is charged. Our old kitty doesn't mind the clippers, but she's developed knots on her belly and absolutely hates the clippers near her belly- so we needed help without taking her to the vet to be sedated. If you need glasses and a headlamp, have those ready too.

Turn it inside out so the tag and seam aren't an irritation to their ears! Calmly slip it over the head, position over the ears, get the cat into position, limit the working time to 1-2 minutes, then calmly remove the hoodie and do lots of head petting etc if kitty sticks around.

Don't try to do everything in one go. This is a great TOOL- just LIMIT the time and be done before kitty decides THEY are done. Used it 3 times now without kitty resentment. Excellent price. Nice quality (just turn it inside out)- snug without any danger of restricting breathing. Love it!

I love this thing. I did order a small and its a little snug on my Cavalier king charles spaniel but this thing is worth it. My boy is scared of storms. Barks and whines at every thunder and whimpers the whole time it rains. Trembles in my lap until it passes. Put the happy hoodie on him and after he gets done trying to fight me to keep it on, he lays down and just sleeps. Its like the storm isn't passing.

I have also used it while blow drying all 4 of our pups and they actually stand still while drying them.

While it seems to work well, our dog apparently has an extra extra large head and it seemed like the XL was a bit tight and was causing her to breathe strangely so had to take it off.

Came back to see if it came in an XXL but unfortunately it doesn’t. Bummer.

Edit: we found a way to make it work for our purpose by cutting it about 3/4 of the way through so it isn’t so restricting on our dog’s throat. It’s being used to go over a bandage covering an owie that keeps getting knocked/scraped open and licked by another dog (eye roll).

I have a Rescue Chihuahua who developed a Hematoma. So the intent was to keep her from doing the head flip, hence the Ear Flip in order to reduce the damage to her blood vessels in the ear. The product works fine when it remains in place. It does seem to also settle the dog down a bit. The one drawback, it could be a little longer so it would stay in place longer.
Update, perhaps 2 weeks have past, when it remains in place it quiets the dog down, the one problem, she knows when we are watching, and when we are not watching she can have it off in a heart beat.

I had noticed when I would dry my hair with a hairdryer that my dog hated the sound (don't blame her, it's loud even for me). I had been using a soft headband/snood to put over her ears to help her feel better for years. She hates things on her head, so the fact she accepted this made me realise she appreciated it.

I thought there surely has to be something specifically made for dogs, because she hates the sound of the blow dryer at the dog wash too.

I bought a medium for my GSP and it fits perfectly, snug but not tight. The dog doesn't seem to mind wearing it and she can hear some things but it certainly appears that its muted to a degree. She used to bark and stress out whenever she heard fireworks. With this on, she was sooo much more calm and able to relax and even sleep with this on along with music playing in the background. I'm so happy to help her cut her anxiety. I'm going to have her groomer try it on her too during her next appointment. Thank you!

Just how snug should this be on my dog? How do I know if it's too tight?
