Use with caution and be responsible
My 7-year-old Labradoodle Max (picture for cuteness) had surgery on one of his paws for a retained foxtail so we needed to find a simple yet useful solution for him during foxtail season (Summer). We’d tried several other booties but none of them fit or were exceptionally hard to put on. What we found with these booties here is that they are cheap (both in cost and material) and require responsible ownership to use. First is that the sizes on the website need to be readjusted. Max’s weight would put him in the medium size category for these, but those are far too tight. So we opted for the large. These are still pretty snug but they don’t cut off circulation like the mediums would have. They also require careful application to make sure you get them over all the pups toenails. If you don’t, they hurt. Also, the warning about not leaving them on during times of inactivity is no joke. These things are basically thickened balloons and do not breathe at all. Not good for circulation and ventilation. All-in-all these are just ok for use IF you get at least one size up from the recommended size, apply them appropriately, and remove them immediately after you finish walking/hiking with your pups. USE WITH CAUTION.

First, I received a package that had already been opened with 5 Pawz missing, but this review is not regarding that experience- this review is for the product only. My family was going camping on an island for the weekend, so I got these for my 12 lb Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to protect her paws from the hot sand, sharp shells, and fiberglass canoe bottom. I tried them out briefly at the house to make sure they fit her and to see if she would wear them; I found them easy to get on and off, and found that they were a bit snug around the top, but didn't seem too bad. She took to them in about 30 seconds, and was quickly darting around the house with her new traction. She seemed to love them. I thought they were perfect.

Fast forward to two days later, when we used them for their intended purpose. I had them on her for about 5-6 hours, and they seemed to be holding up very well- I had just trimmed her nails, so there was no wear there. They stood up to the beach and the wooded areas of the island with no rips or tears. I was so happy they were working! Then, I noticed she was walking with a limp. I took off the Pawz to investigate, thinking maybe she got a thorn or something, and all of her little paws were so swollen! Her paw pads, toes, everything- the whole paw below the ankle where this thing covered was about twice the size they normally are. She never gave any indication at all that they were bothering her! Never whined or messed with them, never even paid them notice. I felt HORRIBLE. I didn't even consider the fact that dogs will often not give any indication when something is bothering them. She was MISERABLE for the rest of the trip- she could hardly walk, and spent most of the time hiding out under the picnic table. I carried her everywhere for the rest of the trip. It took TWO DAYS for her to stop limping and for her paw size to go back to normal. I am so worried at what lasting damage I could have caused by using these wretched things! They DID NOT seem too tight for her- in fact, I found it pretty easy to get a finger under the band to remove them.

DO NOT USE THESE! These should not be on the market. If you decide the use of this product is still worth the risk of the lasting damage it could do to your beloved pup, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION to your dog's behavior while he/she is wearing them. If there is ANY indication whatsoever of adverse effects, IMMEDIATELY DISCONTINUE USE!

Yes, they look like balloons! But so what, if they work!

My Lucy is a 12 lb rescue Poodle from the south, this was her first snow experience and she didn't love the snow at all. I got these boots, and she runs around leaping and playing and running as hard as she can, having a ball, with no problems at all. I had to learn the best way to put them on, but after a couple of trys, they go on very easily. I've had 1 box for a month, and she's still using the same 4 boots that I started her on, so they last forever. I rinse them every time I use them. Don't leave them on after you come inside, moisture can build up inside the boot.

I can imagine that the larger the dog, the more boots you would go through, but for small dogs, these are fabulous. She's not at all bothered by them.

Putting them on, if you are right handed:

If possible, put the dog on a table or counter. That's easy with little guys.
Using both hands, put 2 fingers of the left hand and the middle finger of the right hand just inside the lip of the boot and hold the opening open.
With your thumb and index finger of the right hand, snag a foot and insert in the boot. Make sure you insert far enough so the boot goes up as far as it can.
    Give a treat
Repeat for the other 3 feet.

If you are left handed, I would imagine you would use the same instructions but opposite hands. They pull off relatively easily with a tug and a snap. Rinse the salt and sand off the outside, and drain til dry. If you need to rinse out the inside, be sure to let them dry completely upside down so moisture doesn't collect and stay inside the boot

    Pros:
    Inexpensive
    Last a long time
Don't annoy the dog so they don't try to pull them off
If one gets lost, so what, they are disposable and inexpensive
Easy to put on once you try a couple of times
Everyone comments on how adorable she is in her boots (she's adorable anyway, but I'm okay with people smiling and enjoying it)
    No salt in her paws
Keeps ice out from between the pads

    Cons:
    Can't think of any

5.0 out of 5 stars Pawz for paws - works very well
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 19, 2013
My Parsons Russell needed a toe amputation so I hunted the internet and pet shops for a shoe/boot etc for him to use while walking.
His legs are so scrawny and paws so naturally thin that I've had real trouble finding something to fit.
The Mikki boot was my first choice but was unable to get it on his very delicate, poorly foot, which still had stitches.
I've found the Pawz rubber balloon like socks to be ideal. I have arthritis myself in my hands and struggled for while to get to grips with putting the rubber sock on.
Making sure my dog was sitting or laying quietly on the settee to make life easier for me, with his front paws hanging over the edge of the seat, I began by placing 4 fingers in the neck of the sock to pull and spread apart and slowly and gently eased his paw in, then removing my fingers to allow the sock to close neatly around his ankle part, he was ready to go.
I found it not only stayed on, but stayed in place and for me, I consider each rubber sock to be thick enough to be long lasting.
I think it works well because he is able to feel the ground and he walks so much better with it on.
(Brief note of before the Pawz arrived - I had placed his foot and leg in a clean new poo bag and tied the handles above his elbow which helped keep the bag on his foot/leg and kept his paw from getting dirty, especially with stitches still in - so the rubber pawz socks are proving to be worth their weight in gold.)
THANK YOU PAWZ. I realise they are not designed for medical protection, but in the house, his foot is free as I let the air get at it. Out of doors we simply need to keep it covered and protected.

These are like thick balloons for your dogs paw. When our dog had a wound to his foot and his dressing needed keeping dry, this product was a game changer. Saved us £100s in dressing changes. The medical boot we bought to cover the dressing was not waterproof as promised and so these were used inside the medical boot for a road walk but by themselves for a garden let out. They are tight around the leg but this ensures they stay on. When your dog has an injury they don’t wear them for that long anyway. We only used one at a time on one foot for dressing protection. Bit difficult to get in but there is a knack to it. I would suggest ordering up a size to go over a dressing. We had the largest size for a 21kg dog. Dog accepted the boot.
