Great bulb! These are heavy but produce a very powerful UV effect. I purchased this buln in order to paint the band's Halloween costumes for our Blacklight and Laser shows Halloween weekend and it was fantastic! (the photo does not do the effect justice but you get the idea) I will be using this for all of my costume and blacklight projects moving forward. I can't wait to get to work on next year's show!
I searched high & low on quality black light bulbs to simply screw in existing light sockets, ugh, what a nightmare search, until... I tried and tested the filament/incandescent bulbs (i.e. cheap ones from Party City or Lowes/Home Depot). Don't waste your time, these are completely worthless. They don't put out ANY UV light, and barely any light at all, get scalding hot to the touch, and I can only imagine die out extremely quick (don't know, threw them away too quick to find out lol). So, I started doing research online, watched several reviews, and finally found that the new LED technology was the new age for UV/Blacklights. We have 6 recessed lights in our kitchen and are getting ready to throw a New Year's Eve Glow In The Dark Party :) These lights are AMAZING!!!!! They put out a LOT of light and great UV interaction! They are more directional than the compact florescent (which I also love, Sunlite 20Watt Spirals), but are way brighter :) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
give it a 4 for being a true black light and. bright. But reduce it to a 3 due to the construction. It has a plastic bulge by light bulb threads that limits the type of fixture you use. It didn't go in a plug-in weatherproof (w/rubber gasket) flood light holder.
I thought it was ok, if it would've lasted even a year! Two months however is ridiculous. My son used it at night, every night but on a timer that shut it down after an hour. So, it wasn't overly used(?). I went to plug this in & nothing. Absolutely nothing. It will not power on. My husband (he's an electrician) couldn't get it to work either so it's definitely broken, piece of crap. Anyways, other then mine breaking it was a cool light... but loud. It's an annoyingly loud sound too. Luckily my son liked music to sleep but it had to be turned up fairly loud to be effective in covering up the annoying sound.
I bought 18 of these for my basement arcade. A year later 3 are dead. That seems like a high failure rate for such an expensive LED bulb. However they do work really well and make black light reflective objects really pop.
Update: I ordered 3 replacement bulbs at the current price of $27.63 and they arrived today. All 3 are defective. The threads are all jacked up I can’t fit them in any type of socket. Look at the pictures.
How a manufacturing company can let this happen is baffling. If we the consumer are paying a premium price we expect a premium product.

We bought this to step-up our Halloween decorations. Unfortunately, it seems to cast off more blue light than UV and as such is extremely bright. We ended up shining it towards the house from about 25 feet and everything was glowing like we wanted, but also bathed in violet-blue light which we didn't. It wasn't quite the effect we had hoped for, but it worked nonetheless. We received lots of compliments. I wouldn't get another, but we'll continue to use it. I don't think it's well suited to blacklight use in the same way as a proper fluorescent tube because of the excessive blue light.
OMG! Doubled the resin production. Get 4 of these on a small LED tract lighting strip, from your standard box-store, and you've got everything 'covered' in a standard grow tent. Less energy $ and heat than fluorescent, and they really throw a LOT of light. Has a narrow throw of light - about 1 of these per square-foot of tent floor. Worth the extra cost - highly recommend!
