We needed a carrier for our 9 year old dachshund, Josie. We like to go on longer walks and with her short little legs and age, she can't always keep up. Finding a carrier that works for a dachshund has its challenges, mainly due to their short legs. They need something that is not too deep, otherwise it can be uncomfortable for them. I didn't see any breed-specific carriers made with dachshunds in mind, but this one works OK with some adjustment. Its a good product for many reasons and deserves five stars.( I didn't think it would be fair to give it a lower score because it doesn't work perfectly for a doxie...its not marketed as such.) The bag is well-made and appears durable. Its easy to put Josie in it, though its easiest if one of us holds the bag open and the other one puts her in (but I have done it by myself....its just that she is wiggly). The opening for her head is ample and you can cinch it closed to make her more secure...I didn't have any concerns about her falling out. I did find that putting a rolled up towel underneath her chest helped prop her up and kept the bottom of the head opening from digging into her throat....you shouldn't have an issue with that if your dog has regular length legs. The strap on the bag is also adjustable, so I liked that feature...not all the carriers we looked at had that. She weighs almost 16 lbs so she's heavy, but the strap has some padding and its wide, so that helped. Once inside, she was happy as can be (probably felt like a big dog) and though its a bit of work lugging her around, its well worth it to see have her with us.
